Twyla Sommersell's Volunteer Teaching Position for GLMA
Organized by: Deleted Deleted
I recently applied to Guyana Lutheran Music Academy (GLMA), a nonprofit organization seeking music teachers who are skilled and willing to teach music in South America. I have been offered the position to teach voice, guitar and piano in Guyana for 10 months!! I graciously accepted.
My passion has always been music. I am a musician, teacher, singer, songwriter, performer and choral conductor, and being able to participate in these things makes life meaningful for me. I've loved teaching since I began directing the gospel choir at my high school, while I was still attending high school! And since then I've never stopped.
Guyana is a beautiful place, filled with warm sun, beautiful and rich heritage and even more beautiful people. Although considered a third-world country, Guyana is rich in minerals like gold, rich in agriculture and rich in history. Guyana has also has a rich musical culture.
This teaching position in Guyana will be a major eye opener for me, and this is an amazing opportunity for me to utilize my skills and be a part of something much bigger than myself. My goal is to share vocal and instrumental pedagogy that I have been taught with students-young and old-who want to learn new musical skills or improve on old ones. Either way, there will be an exchange of ideas, music and culture.
This is a voluntary teaching position, and a lot of funds are needed to make this possible. Please help me and the organization by making a donation today. Your donation will help with the cost of my flight, my stay in Guyana and any amenities and expenses that occur during the time of my stay.
Your donation will make it possible for me to give my very best to the amazing people of this wonderful country, and I know that my skills will be even more refined and sharpened by the time I reunite with you in the states again!
I thank you in advance for helping me to make this possible!
Love and Peace,
