Tyierra R Wilson Biography
Tyierra R. Wilson, 27, was raised by her grandparents in the streets of New Orleans, LA. Facing her fair share of heartache in her life she had all the excuses imaginable to give up and not succeed. Despite her hurdles being massive in magnitude they were the ultimate reason behind her success and glory.
At the age of 15, Tyierra’s young life changed drastically when Hurricane Katrina stormed in to the New Orleans city limits forcing her and her family to take shelter. After losing her positive outlook on life to the storm, she made a promise within herself to take what was one of the leading causes of her tribulations and turn it into the reason she would never give up.
Her first hand account of military during her unpleasant stay in the city’s makeshift shelter pushed her to enlist in the US Navy in 2008. She stepped forward in order to use her shattering past for the betterment of other’s future. While serving on active duty, Tyierra began to write her life’s story entitled “When God Closed His Eyes on New Orleans” which is to be published in 2017. The pages illustrate the impact of gambling issues grandparents have on a young soul. It tells the accounts of a girl who was at too many times in her life without the basic necessities of food, water, shelter, a mother and happiness all while sharing experiences during Katrina in the New Orleans Superdome.
As a Navy Sailor and even after transitioning into the Navy Reserves in 2014, Tyierra ensures she betters her community and positively impacts young lives. She has volunteered time to Susan G. Komen, Ronald McDonald House and is an advocate for Mariska Harigitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation. She continues to finds ways to improve the community around her. As a Semi-finalist for the Ms. Veteran America, Tyierra has dedicated her time to informing others of the 55,000 homeless female veterans in hopes of ending their sorrows once and for all.
Tyierra has achieved a number of honors during her young life. Her admirations includes the Hampton Roads, Virginia Chamber of Commerce Certificate of Excellence, two Navy Marine Achievement Awards, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Washington DC Dunkin Donuts Community Hero Award, and was nominated and selected for the 2016 White House Hosted “United State of Women.”
In 2014, Tyierra completed her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. Currently, alongside working in IT management, Tyierra Wilson is pursuing her Master of Science in Project Management graduating in May 2017. Tyierra has a passion for writing and photography. She enjoys time with her young son, god daughter, sisters, friends and Yorkshire terrier Mushu. Tyierra likes to summarize her life’s belief with “My past was that of a nightmare. All the more reason why I am going to make my future, our future, a dream.”
