Tyler Morrison CA At-Large Delegate for Bernie Sanders
Organized by: Tyler Morrison
My name is Tyler Morrison and I have been confirmed as an At-Large Delegate for Bernie Sanders! Each one of us have worked so hard to ensure that Bernie Sanders is our next president because of the values and ideals that he represents. That is why I am incredibly honored to be selected to represent the Bernie supporters of California at the Democratic National Convention from July 25-28.
Along with many other delegates, I am in need not only of your moral support, but of your financial support as well which is why I have set up this fund raising page.
At the begining of my journey supporting Bernie, which started in January doing phone banking, I couldn't have imagined the momentum that we have built, the family of loving supporters I would meet and talk to, and not only being elected by my community as the 2nd place male District-Level Delegate, but also being selected to serve as an At-Large Delegate for Bernie! Because my district, CD44, has not reached the threshold for me to be confirmed to attend the convention on a District-Level basis, it appeared that I would not be able to attend at all, so I temporarily halted my fundraising efforts. But at the state delegation meeting in Long Beach on June 19th, I was selected by the campaign from over 1700 applicants and confirmed by the District-Level Delegates to serve as an At-Large Delegate!
At the convention, I plan to attend as many caucus meetings as possible to fight for the following items to be added to our party platform: a medicare for all, single payer healthcare plan, making public colleges and universities tuition free along with refinancing existing student loan debt, to overturn the disastrous Supreme Court ruling Citizens United, to immediately transition to clean and renewable forms of energy, to break up the big banks and open up the Federal Reserve, and to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. And most importantly, my plan at the convention is to fight for Bernie Sanders to be our presidential nominee!
But no matter the outcome of our convention, the journey most certainly does not end there. I plan to take the knowledge and resources I gain at the convention and bring them home so that we can all work together to transform America and the Democratic party by helping to elect every 'Bernie-crat' to local, state, and federal office as possible. So that we can all work together to move the hearts and minds of our friends and neighbors, our lawmakers, and our judges a little bit to the left. So that we can all work together to spread a message of compassion and caring, a message that says, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."
In order for me to successfully take on this role and carry out my duties as a delegate, it is critical that I ask for your support in getting me to the convention in Philadelphia. Along with airfare, lodging, transportation, convention fees and incidentals, I am looking at a total cost of about $2,500.
I recently became employed full time as a Certified Nurse Assistant at a skilled nursing facility making $12 an hour, but that is barely enough with overtime to cover my costs of living, let alone to make it to the convention on this short notice. But because this work is a labor of love to me and because Bernie represents the values that nurses care about, I am especially excited to work in the field that I do and to be a delegate.
Please do what you can to help make this possible for me and don't forget to share this page with others in your network.
From the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU! I am so excited to represent us with pride at the Democratic National Convention!
