THE STORY:

Dear Supporters
In the early hours of the morning on Friday, November 08 2013, Typhoon Hiyan, known in the Philippines as Yolanda, hit the island archipelago and plowed across the country at immense speed. The storm was categorized a Category +5 Super Typhoon, with winds at 315km/h at the time it made landfall and gusts of up to 380km/h. In comparison, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was a Category 3 Storm with winds at 205km/h. This was a big one. In fact, Hiyan is probably the strongest storm to make landfall ever recorded worldwide.
My brother and future sister-in-law were over there when it happened but survived this tragic event. We are organizing a large scale multiple level relief project to get the Philippine people help NOW. Just because it didn't happen to us, doesn't free us from our responsibilities to our fellow brothers and sisters. If you are a person with burning initiative and want to join the team, contact Sophie. We are working with a NYC based grassroots relief organization, the Tao Philippines Family who lives on Paluwan, and a growing list of supporters.
