THE STORY:

OUR PURPOSE: We are bringing you a story from outside the box— a journey of self-discovery where stereotypes end and authenticity begins.

Most know, or have heard, about the struggles of the transgender experience- what it’s like to fear for your life, health, relationships, and career. And yet his film isn’t only about the struggle. It’s certainly not about invoking pity. It’s about personal integrity and self-determination.

Everything about this project breaks the mold, from the story itself to the queer filmmaker capturing it. This story isn’t being told by Hollywood. It’s a story told by us.

We want to amplify the voice of the LGBT community and share a vision of what is possible.

ABOUT THE FILM: The “breaking” of a wild horse has long been a symbol of masculinity and power.

But Cash, a young trans-man, doesn’t identify with the aggressive male archetypes he’s encountered throughout his life. Refusing to trade one personal prison for another, he is on a quest to establish a mutually empowering relationship with his mustang, Lusso, and thereby express a masculinity of his own choosing. All of their training is leading up to the performance of a traditional Spanish horse dance, called Garrocha.

As Cash overcomes his painful past and decides his own blueprint for life, the horse-training arena becomes the theater of his rebirth.

Lusso’s background: Lusso is a wild horse and was rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management when he was eleven years old. He was mal-trained by an equine hoarder, deemed “unusable” and sent to a feedlot where he would be slaughtered for meat in Canada or Mexico. He now finds himself face to face with Cash, another disenfranchised being. Lusso’s tail forms one giant dreadlock and can’t be cared for until he trusts Cash to come close enough to touch him.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: We are urgently seeking your support for the remaining production equipment to begin filming. Cash’s journey is already underway as he is receiving college credit for his training work with Lusso. Because of the academic commitment, his story can’t be put on hold. We are in need of production equipment and need to begin filming by April 20th, 2016.
