If you ask anyone in Boston where they were last April 15, they will all remember. I was two miles from the finish line of the Boston Marathon, and I will never forget the runners I helped find a phone, a blanket or a place to rest, as they slowly came to realize there was no longer a race to finish. From that day, I knew that would run in this marathon someday, and thanks to uAspire, I now set my sights on April 21, 2014, for my chance to complete this race.
As a recent Boston University graduate, I’ve always cherished Marathon Monday and how this day brings together people from all over the city and all over the world. I know the feeling of waking up early each April morning full of anticipation, waiting to see the marathoners come down Beacon Street as they make their way to Copley Square. I am excited that this year I get to experience this day from the other side of the barrier as a runner. This is my first marathon and I would not want to run the 26.2 miles anywhere but Boston.
What could be better than running in the Boston Marathon? Running for a cause of great importance to me. uApsire gives students in high schools and universities the financial advice they need to navigate the huge costs associated with higher education. Many families are burdened with the costs of college, and tuition is oftentimes the obstacle that prevents students from receiving a college degree. uAspire helps these students and families afford college by offering free one-on-one financial advising, helping with finding scholarships and providing guidance through the financial aid process.
As a recent college graduate who went through financial stresses to go to and remain at college, I strongly believe in the programs that uAspire established to help families in need of information that makes paying for college easier. uAspire currently helps students and families in four cities, and has plans to expand their reach to more throughout the United States.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $10,000 for this amazing organization and come cheer me on Marathon Monday as I run the Boston Marathon!!
