BENEFITING: MGVP INC
Mountain gorillas are critically endangered. Current estimates put their numbers at about 900 in Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Rwanda, a 2010 census counted 480 individuals, up 26.3% from the 2003 census. Current numbers are higher, but there’s a long way to go to get these incredibly strong but gentle and intelligent creatures off the endangered species list. We want to help, so that’s why we’ve established the Ubwira Mountain Gorilla Matching Fund, a donation matching program to support the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, aka Gorilla Doctors. The fund is named after a baby gorilla, Ubwira, who was named by Africa Adventures Consultants President Kent Redding at the 2015 Kwita Izina gorilla naming ceremony. Gorilla Doctors is dedicated to saving the mountain and eastern lowland (Grauer’s) gorilla species one gorilla patient at a time. Their international veterinary team provides hands-on medical care to ill and injured mountain and Grauer’s gorillas living in the national parks of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Please join us in funding this important work and we will match donations through October 31, 2015 up to $1,000 total.
