The youth in Uganda usually start participating in agriculture after getting motivated by their elder role models. Actually farmers here are largely elderly people ranging from 55 to 70 years. These farmers lack enthusiasm while engaging in their traditional subsistence farming, which results in poor returns. As a result farming has been avoided by the Ugandan youth who see it as a job for only the illiterate, poor and old rural people. This is partly because agriculture has been associated with people who are not necessarily well kept and wear rags.

Due to the misconception, there has been an increase in rural to urban migration, especially among the Ugandan youth who are searching for greener pastures. As a result, formal job opportunities have diminished in urban centers due to the population explosion. This has given rise to desperation among the young generation leading to substance abuse, violence and crime, while enhancing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Many Ugandan youth are currently facing unemployment, extreme poverty and starvation. The only solution to the persistent poverty problems particularly in rural areas, is commercializing small scale farming. This will guarantee profitability and thus encourage the involvement of the Ugandan youth in all activities related to agriculture. This demands quick transformation of agriculture for food security, poverty reduction and self-reliance.

In this view, The Young Empowerment and Development through Modernized Agriculture(YEDMA AFRICA) as a non- profit organization located in Kampala-Uganda; has embarked on training the youth on different areas of farming, from production to marketing.

Suffice to note, that the youth in Uganda face many challenges when venturing into the farming business, given thatmost Ugandan youth do no possess land, a crucial requirement in the farming business. YEDMA AFRICA has made efforts to offset this challenge by acquiring land for farming to the youth farmers.in addition,YEDMA AFRICA plans to provide farm in puts, financial assistance and technical advice especially in areas related to better faming practices, pest and disease control as well as marketing.

As evidencedfrom above, our organization is dedicated to the process of making that happen but we need your help. Your donation will bring us closer to our goal of reaching out a million youth by 2018. Many business and community leaders are on board as well as hundreds of individuals. Our community is clearly excited and eager to see this project succeed. You can be a part of that excitement by supporting our youth with donation of any items which are key requirements for this project’s success. We are happy to acknowledge your donation on our website and at our numerous events, (unless you prefer otherwise).
