Uhura's Knee Surgery
Organized by: Madeleine Brown
My sweet dog Uhura is in need of knee surgery after rupturing her cranial cruciate ligament in her back right knee. The estimate comes out to between $4,000 and $4,400.
Uhura's Story: Uhura was born a squishy fur ball on the eve of April 29th, 2011. A happy accident, I met her the following day and have loved her ever since. She has had a few major life events, a spay surgery and a few moves with me, but she's had a happy life. She loves going to the dog park and playing fetch, going to the river and playing fetch, and generally playing fetch whenever the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, this love of the game has created the problem she is currently in - cranial cruciate ligament rupture that requires a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy surgery.
My Story: I was born a squishy naked ball on the morning of March 18th, 1989 and have known myself ever since. Siilar to Uhura, I have had some major life events as well, but dissimilar to her, I don't like fetch nearly as much as she does. I'm currently in law school with the hopes of getting a certificate and eventually a position in animal law. I have been a vegetarian since I was 16, a vegan since I was 21, and knew I wanted animal welfare to be my life's work when I was a teacher in Honduras. This is all to say that Uhura is not only my pet, but I see her as my child. Law school has given me a very fixed income, but I want to do everything I can to make sure that Uhura is happy and healthy, and this surgery is a big part of that desire.
Please help with whatever you can. Dog parents understand - there's a life before your pet and a life after. I have yet to know the third stage, but I'm not ready to find out and neither is Uhura.
