BENEFITING: Urban Initiatives
Urban Initiatives is honored to partner with Akuna Capital for an event in memory of Orest Sopka. Urban Initiatives' mission is to empower Chicago’s underserved children to adopt healthy lifestyles, improve their academic performance, and build strong character through sports-based youth development programs. We maximize our impact by collaborating with parents, schools, and community stakeholders.
Work to Play is Urban Initiatives’ flagship health and education soccer program. We call on Team Akuna and friends of Orest to help support Urban Initiatives’ mission by making donations in Orest’s honor. This program provides over 900 boys and girls in 29 Chicago Public Schools with the chance to belong to a soccer team, regardless of skill level or financial ability. Beyond soccer skills, children are taught important life lessons about health, character and teamwork by their coach. Membership means two practices and one game per week throughout the school year. Ongoing team participation depends on meeting academic and behavioral goals, as measured by their teachers and coaches on a weekly basis.
Orest was an avid soccer fan and regularly took the field several times a week to play the game he loved. We look forward to honoring his memory by teaching kids throughout Chicago the beautiful game. Donations of any amount will go a long way in helping kids reach their goals both on and off the field. Below are the suggested levels of support:
- $20 Bus Sponsorship: provide one Work to Play participant with bus rides to two Friday afternoon game days.
- $50 Healthy Snack Sponsorship: provide nutritious snacks for 30 children during one week of the Work to Play season.
- $167 Season Sponsorship: support one Work to Play participant for an entire season.
- $500 Child Sponsorship: support one Work to Play participant for the entire school year (sponsor as many children as you want!).
With your support, we will continue to honor Orest and spread his love of soccer throughout the city of Chicago.
