Summer Search's Fundraiser:

Atacama Crossing Ultramarathon

Summer Search's Photo

BENEFITING: Summer Search

EVENT DATE: Oct 18, 2015

About The Race:

The 7-day race takes place in the Atacama Desert, which is recognized as the driest place on earth –  50 times more arid than California's Death Valley!

Starting at just below 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) in the Arcoiris Valley, the race gradually descends over the six stages to finish in the pretty town of San Pedro de Atacama at an elevation of 2,400 meters (7,900 feet).

Competitors will tackle sand-dunes, river crossings, gravel, loose rocks, hard packed earth and even waist high grass during the event. This is in addition to the infamous salt flats that even the most dexterous of runners find nearly impossible to cross at full-speed.

About Summer Search:

Summer Search is a national youth development organization. Our mission is to help teenagers from low-income households transform what they believe is possible for themselves and develop the skills they need to become college-educated leaders who give back to their families and communities.

Summer Search's provides students with year-round professional mentoring, experiential learning programs, college access counseling and in-college support services. Our Impact: 72% of Summer Search Seattle students have graduate from college or are on track to do so, compared to just 10% of their peers from underserved households nationally.
