RACE UPDATE: I completed the 13.1 miles in 1 hour, 22 minutes, and 59 seconds -- my best half marathon time ever! I finished 12th overall out of 855 runners. It was a great day, a great race, and most of all a great cause! Thank you all for your generous support.
My name is Benoit Delbecq, and I am running the Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon on March 30th in honor of my niece, Grace Bechdol. Grace is 12 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis. Fortunately, it has been remarkably well managed, and Grace is able to live like a normal (almost) teenager. She dances in the ballet, plays the piano, participates in 4-H, does a crazy amount of homework, and is constantly on the go.
Ever since I met Grace, her daily routine has consisted of taking enzymes before she eats to help her body break down and absorb food and doing breathing treatments to clear mucus from her lungs. She does it everyday like a champ and without complaint. I am so proud that she has not allowed CF to slow her down one bit.
Grace was there to support me when I ran my very first half marathon in Chicago in 2009. It is only fitting that I dedicate this run to Grace. I hope you will consider donating to the cause to improve the lives of those battling CF. Thank you!
