The Underground Scholars Initiative (USI) was formed in 2014 by students at U.C. Berkeley who have been directly impacted by the prison industrial complex; either being formerly incarcerated or having a family member incarcerated> We are using our direct experience to tackle issues of mass incarceration including creating a Prison-To-School Pipeline using Higher Education as an alternative to incarceration.
There are currently 15 active members in the Underground Scholars Initiative and not all of us have computers. Currently we only have two computers at our office. and for some of us this is the place where we also do our homework, and research. We are asking for your financial support to get 4 more computers, more specifically two desktops and two laptops. We would like to use the new computers to increase our capacity as an organization and as students.
