Greetings from Nakivale Refugee Settlement! My name is Henok Ochalla Ogud and I am the UNHCR Field Officer at Nakivale. I came to Nakivale in January, after working in many other refugee camps throughout my career.
I’m very excited about the World Refugee Day 5k because I think sports can promote development and livelihoods and support peace. It can help young people realize their potential.
My idea is to use music to engage youth and provide a livelihood opportunity. Every night, you can hear live music playing on the main street of the settlement. There are talented musicians here.
On June 20th, I will run with a team of UNHCR workers to help one band get the things they need to make a living from their music. We can help them get more training, more equipment and instruments like drums, guitars and keyboards.
I hope you’ll join me to make more music in Nakivale!
