We are UNICEF’s Young Ambassadors in Chicago, a group of motivated and globally-minded youth ages 10 to 14 years who volunteer their time to advocate and fundraise for UNICEF. Until June, 2015, we will be helping to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT), a disease that kills approximately 58,000 newborns each year– that’s one every 9 minutes/160 per day.
These deaths do not have to happen…tetanus is preventable! It costs $1.80 to immunize a woman and protect her future babies from tetanus. MNT has already been eliminated in 33 of the 59 countries where it was identified as a threat.
Elimination is within reach and UNICEF’s Young Ambassadors are committed to reaching the day when ZERO newborns die from tetanus.
