We are a group of friends who are raising funds for UNICEF Philippines to assist the children and their families affected by Typhoon Haiyan. As you already know, the Philippines was in the direct path of what locals like to call a “supertyphoon”--possibly the strongest in recorded history--which has caused quite a number of casualties and rendered hundreds of thousands homeless..
Some of the most vulnerable during this crisis are the three million displaced children, who, without food, shelter and medicine, become more prone to sickness everyday. Also add to that the 60,000 women who are pregnant and are nursing infants without hospitals or clinics to go to.
This is where your contribution to UNICEF comes in. UNICEF's response to the tragedy involves transporting food, water purification systems, hygiene kits, emergency health kits to the affected areas (the entire Region 8 of Eastern Visayas). They are also putting up feeding centers to fight malnutrition, tents to house day care and learning centers to keep children safe from violence, as well as facilities to care for nursing and birthing mothers. UNICEF is also working with local government units to identify children who have been displaced or lost their families.
Any donation, big or small, is very much welcome and appreciated. Please also take the time out to raise awareness on how to help. Tell your families, friends and colleagues, and get them to contribute. Our country, the Philippines, needs your help badly.
Thank you and much love!
