Hola! I am Celeste Green, founder of Spanish for ALL Kids. Spanish for ALL Kids is a company that gives at-risk and under-represented children an opportunity to become bilingual. I began my career teaching languages to young children over 20 years ago in southwest Detroit. I saw how EVERY child could become bilingual - regardless of socio-economic status. I left the public school sector to set out to teach as many children as I could Spanish, and I knew it was important for children to learn it at a young age. We all know that we now live in a world in which we interact with people all over the globe! Our children will NEED to be exposed to other cultures and be able to communicate in more than one language in order to be successful as adults. Children with more means and access generally have the opportunity to learn a foreign language at a young age, while their at-risk counterparts rarely get that opportunity. Spanish for ALL Kids uses funds that are raised to implement Spanish programs in schools with high numbers of at-risk children. We offer programs as a "Lunch and Learn" or after-school program, whichever works best for the school in which we have the program. We are currently eager to begin a summer Spanish program in Ypsilanti, MI. Kids will learn conversational Spanish AND we have a Latin Cooking component to our program in which kids learn how to prepare simple, healthy snacks that are commonly eaten in Spanish speaking countries! Families LOVE this component and students get to take home a recipe book at the end of our sessions together. In order to offer our program we need $5000 to purchase materials, pay teachers, rent space and offer our cooking component. We plan to begin our program on June 29, 2016 and have it run until the first week of August. We need the funds by June 28, 2016. This means so very much to me because I have been teaching Spanish to young children for over 20 years and I have seen how learning another language TRULY opens windows to the world and can change a life! It is crystal clear to me that this opportunity has evaded at-risk and African-American children for far too long! I want nothing more than to make this opportunity available to ALL children and not just kids in certain zip codes, because in the end everyone will need these skills! Thank you so very much for your generosity!
