BENEFITING: United Way of Rhode Island
ORGANIZER: United Way of Rhode Island
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
I'm so thankful that growing up I always had a place I called home. I had a place where I felt safe. A bedroom where I could close the door turn out the lights, slide into my bed, pull the bedding over my body and close my eyes. I was fortunate to fall asleep in my own bed not a coat or a sleeping bag.
I had the privilege to walk into a house where, a few rooms away, was the smell of food cooking.
Maybe it was chicken roasting in the oven, or a marinara sauce simmering on the stove, it really did not matter. What matters is what it means: sometime soon, I would sit down at a table and eat dinner with the people I love.
The old saying is that the best things in life are free. I do not know about that. None of these things are free, but they do not cost much. And when you don’t have them, they are priceless.
That's why I'm running with the Young Leaders Circle of United Way of Rhode Island in the Pell Bridge Run on October 25th. I'm running to raise money to help more families retain their homes in the year ahead. Our goal is to raise $8,000 to help families who are at-risk of becoming homeless.
I hope you'll consider donating to my page and help a family from becoming homeless.
