BENEFITING: Little Sisters Fund, Inc.
Our goal is to raise the seed money for a new micro-finance program to support economically disadvantaged and marginalized women in Nepal in their pursuit of tertiary education (university level and technical certification). Graduates of Little Sisters Fund scholarship programs, which support girls who might not otherwise attend school to complete school through 12th grade, will be eligible to take out small loans of up to $250 per year to finance higher level studies.
The program will create new opportunities for young women to pursue the career paths they are most passionate about. By offering loans, our aim is to prevent dependency while encouraging recipients to take ownership for their education and develop personal finance skills.
For girls who have received full scholarships for primary and/or secondary school, the loan-based approach represents a gradual release of financial responsibility back to the student/recipient as she prepares for fully independent adulthood.
After the initial ramp-up period (years 1-4), the program will trend towards becoming self-sustaining as loan repayments start to balance new loans. The seed funding will eventually become circulating capital once the first recipients begin paying off their loans and new cohorts of graduates become loan recipients.
Thank you for your support! Or, as they say in Nepal, Dhanyabaad!
