BENEFITING: Imagine Scholar Inc
Do you remember the excitement of your first college visit? The feeling that your future was right around the corner and you would get a glimpse of it as soon as you step foot on that campus?? Well that time is NOW for the grade 12 students of Imagine Scholar! Our students are highly motivated, high achieving learners from across the rural Nkomazi of South Africa's Mpumalanga province. In addition to coming from low-income backgrounds, these students are often the first in their families to be in a position to attend and be successful in university. As a result, this trip will be the first time that our grade 12 students get to see a university campus, visit lecture halls, and learn the options open to them. With YOUR help, these talented young people can take the first step down the path of a happy and successful future!
To expose our students to a variety of universities and career options ( a necessity particularly since many South African universities choose not to come out to rural areas), we will visit four universities in the Johannesburg/Pretoria area: University of Johannesburg, University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, and Tswhane University of Technology- Pretoria Campus. A South African donor has generously offered to sponsor the cost of overnight accommodations for 8 people (including chaperones) but we still need your help to cover the rest of the costs. Below is a breakdown of the trip's cost:
- Tolls- $45 USD/ $405 rand
- Petrol- $220 USD/ $1980 rand
- Food- $200 USD/ 1800 rand
- University of Pretoria/ Engineering Programme- $166 USD/ $1500 rand
- Student Local Transport- $40 USD/ $360 rand
- Miscellaneous Costs- $60 USD/ $540 rand
Imagine Scholar provides unique, personalized education to promising youth in South Africa's disadvantaged Nkomazi region. We strive to effect profound change on individual lives and empower the next generation of African leaders through creative, multidimensional development.
Imagine Scholar aspires not to help students merely get by, but to give them the tools to be the difference makers of their generation and bring lasting change to their communities.
