Unkie's cat, Steady
Organized by: Kristin Blumetti
I am keeping this fundraiser private...it is for my uncle who is 79 years old and lives on a very limited budget. Over the past 2 years he has adopted and fallen in love with 2 cats that lived on the property where he rents an apartment. Allie and Steady. They has been "farm" cats roaming th property for 10 years before my uncle moved in. The property owners fed them but never treated them as "pets". With my uncle being the animla lover that he is, he unofficially adopted them...feeding then and allowing them into his apartment. They made themselves right at home and were just what my lonely uncle needed...companions. About 6 months ago, Allie got sick and at that time he informed the property owners since technically they were the cat's "owners". They took the cat in and without my uncle even knowing what was going on they had the cat put down. He was devastated, angry and very sad to lose one of his companions. now he has Steady left...This cat is his best friend. My uncle's 3 children live out of state, and they stay in touch and help with so much for him from a distance and I visit with him once a week also, but this cat has been his true companion over the past 2 years. Last week, the cat came in from it's daily "outdoor tome" with a limp. My uncle immediately called me worried and I helped him take it to the vet. He is too afraid to tell the property owners because he knows they don't have the same bond with the cat that he does and are most likely to just put the cat down. After X-rays and an exam it was determined that the cat has dislocated his "hip" and torn ligaments. They only gave him 3 options: 1 Surgery for $4500, 2 Amputation for $2500 or put the cat down for $500. Now, my uncle cannot afford any of these options as he literally comes down to the last penny each month as it is, in fact here we are the 9th of the month and he spent his last dime on the vet visit. He simply doesn't have the $ and none of his family has it all either. He is bringing the cat to another vet for a second opinion today, and hopefully we can get some more/better/cheaper options...but in the mean time I thought I could rally some of my animal loving friends together to see if there is any way we can at least offset the cost of whichever option he has to end up doing. Even $5 will help if we all band together. Thank you for your discretion on this...I do not want it posted publicly...my uncle does not know I am doing this and all donations will be anonymously given to him. Thank you.
