Hanoverians and friends, we will be hosting a BODYCOMBAT class to raise money for Warrior 360!

Many of us have athletic hobbies outside of the office, such as running, rowing, rock climbing, yoga, softball, etc. The latest profile in Hanover’s “Getting to Know…” series features Caitlin Daw, a B2B researcher on the Enterprise team. In addition to her role at Hanover, Caitlin teaches group fitness classes at Gold’s Gym and GW University. She teaches the following formats, including several Les Mills programs:

  • BODYPUMP™ (Weight Lifting)
  • BODYCOMBAT™ (Mixed Martial Arts)
  • CXWORX™ (Core Conditioning)
  • GRIT Series™ (High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT))
  • Cycle

She will be teaching a BODYCOMBAT class as part of Hanover’s April Community Service Event for Warrior 360: “Unleash Your Inner Warrior for Our Warriors.” The class will be held on Sunday, April 17th at the Gold’s Gym in Ballston at 2pm. All class participants (members and non-members) will receive a week-long pass to the gym and a free personal training session (up to a $250 value).

We asked Caitlin a few questions about her teaching experience and the upcoming charity class.

How did you get involved in teaching?

I was training for a half marathon during my second year of graduate school and was taking BODYPUMP™ regularly as a form of cross training for the race. I had a great instructor, and the more I was taking the class, the more I thought to myself that I could be up front teaching the class as well. I got my first certification for BODYPUMP™ in August 2014 and have been teaching ever since.

What do you like about teaching group fitness?

Having regular classes is a great way to develop a rapport with your members and to watch them grow. Each week across all the formats I teach, I see my regular and new participants working hard to get stronger and achieve their fitness goals. It’s great to see them challenge themselves and take their fitness to new heights!

What do you like about the Les Mills formats?

Les Mills classes are pre-choreographed to music; each quarter, we instructors receive new music and choreography to launch at our clubs. The music is always great and motivates me, not only as a teacher, but also as a participant! Les Mills programs are also backed by the latest research in exercise science, so the programs are constantly innovating themselves with the latest research and most effective ways to train and be fit.

Have any other Hanoverians taken your classes before?

Yes! Several Hanoverians have taken my classes, including BODYPUMP™, BODYCOMBAT™, GRIT™, and CXWORX™.  In fact, my office mate Lana has taken PUMP™, GRIT™, and COMBAT™. She describes BODYCOMBAT™ as “energetic, fun, and fierce!” When I told her about the charity class, she got excited and is looking forward to taking the class again.  

What was your inspiration for our charity event?

Charity classes are a great way to bring people together for a great cause and are a unique community service event. Since the class is benefiting our veterans, the essence of BODYCOMBAT™—Unleashing Your Inner Warrior—makes it an ideal format for our event.

I have no martial arts/kickboxing/boxing experience. Is this class for me?

Absolutely! BODYCOMBAT™ (as well as all other Les Mills classes) caters to every fitness level (beginners to veterans to the class). As an instructor, I ALWAYS provide options for the moves in every class. Take the option that works for you! That’s how you achieve success in any workout. Several Hanoverians who’ve taken COMBAT before were first-timers as well and loved the class.

BODYCOMBAT is an innovative way to train with cardio and is inspired by several types of martial arts: Boxing, Kickboxing, MMA, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kung Fu, Capoeira, and Muay Thai. It’s a full body workout, where you get to unleash the fighter in you!
