Week 1, Not as Bad as I Thought
August 08, 2016
To commemorate turning 50 years young in January 2017, I am running the JFK ultramarathon: 50 miles of trail running through the Appalacians and along the C&O Canal in Frederick County, MD, on November 19th.
I am not the first with this idea to run 50 on your 50th, but I am the first to do it with the purpose of supporting Talbot Humane and ratcheting up the awesomeness of the Unleashed running program, which I have been coaching for 5 years now.
I am teaming up with another Unleasher, Murray Sarubin, who is running his 7th Ironman this fall at the age of 75. Together we want to raise $20,000 for the shelter. The money will go directly into Talbot Humane's daily animal care as well as its many community outreach programs, which have led the shelter to the recent distinction of Best Nonprofit on Maryland's Eastern Shore by What's Up Eastern Shore? magazine. (Incidentally, Unleashed has also been recognized for the 2nd year in a row as Best Running Club!)
Murray and I have entered the "dog days" of training, battling high heat and humidity and still hundreds of miles before our respective race days. Your generous donations for the animals will definitely help us to keep our focus. Be sure to check back for updates on my training progress, and THANK YOU!
