We are getting closer to opening the first inclusive academy for children of all abilities, but we need your help. Our vision is for children to learn side by side with their peers, to have a fully integrated neurodeveopment program included in our personalized and project based learning curriculum. To create a method that we can share with schools around the world to improve education.
Our values of innovation, strength and empathy will guide our children to their ultimate potential, physically, emotionally and academically. Our universal design will allow all children to participate in communicaiton and language skills, art, coding, gardening, cooking and other life skills as well as excel in core academics such as math, reading, and science.
My daughter had cerebral palsy, she was included in her classroom, but she did not get the therapies that she needed to reach her potential in the school day. She was often up early and stayed up late because of trying to fill in outside therapies to help her overcome her brain injury and become independent and successful as she got older.
Like any parent, I would do anything I could for my children. For this child, it meant creating a place where she could be with her peers, learn, belong and gain skills that will benefit her for a lifetime. My daughter passed away in March, but the lessons that she taught me, about inclusion, acceptance, perseverence and dedication, live on. I know there is a better way to help and educate our children. I wish that she were here to benefit so that I could see her grow into the wonderful, intelligent woman I know she could have been. I hope to have the opportunity to see so many other children, around the country and around the world, grow to be successful, independent and kind adults.
Help us change education, help us open UP Academy. All our kids benefit from learning empathy, problem solving, innovation and communication.
“. . .those who know how to empathize and adjust their communications and style of collaboration, will always have an advantage.” - Forbes
