EVENT DATE May 31, 2015
Who is my neighbor? The 2010 Census Bureau data paints a sobering picture of struggling Americans. According to the figures, nearly 1-in-6 adults and 1-in-5 children are currently living in poverty, the highest rate seen in 52 years. As of August, 2014, there were nearly 50,000 unemployed workers in Sacramento County. As poverty rates increase, homelessness becomes the tragic reality for more children, families and single adults, with more than 2500 homeless each night in Sacramento.
Who is my neighbor? Our group from Jesuit High School will stay at the Sacramento Newman Center Annex from May 31, 2015 - June 5, 2015. Each day we will serve at various non-profits meeting the needs of homeless, hungry, women & children, seniors, and people in transitional housing throughout Sacramento. Our aim is to develop an awareness and a heart for the marginalized in our hometown, leading to a lifetime commitment to care for our neighbors, both near and far.
The cost of my trip is $500 plus a minimum donation of $300.00 (Money raised to donate towards the non-profit organizations that work with Jesuit High School on this trip).
