Let's show our kids that we are ready to go the distance for them! Support Urban Compass and our mission to guide youth toward a hopeful future!
Focusing on mentorship from local high school and college students, core academic support, and engaging enrichment activities, our after-school and summer programs for Kindergarten through 5th graders aim to help students navigate through elementary school and beyond, keeping them out of gangs and on a path to college and a fulfilling, constructive life. We currently manage one personalized program for students from 112th St. Elementary School in Watts, the primary feeder school for Nickerson Gardens families. Our program is based on the neighboring Verbum Dei High School campus, a safe and attractive setting, which boasts a 100% college acceptance rate for its students, many with similar backgrounds as our youth. There, they get to learn on a high school campus and work with male student role models every day. They serve as homework helpers, teammates, and tutors for our elementary youth. Our students also engage with college students from local universities who also tutor them but mostly inspire them to achieve college success. Monthly field trips and summer camp experiences also keep them academically engaged and expose them to new learning and a world outside their own neighborhood. Learn more at www.urbancompass.org!
