BENEFITING: URBAN GLEANERS
Last year, our Food to Schools Program fed over 300 children and their families in the David Douglas Douglas District of Portland. Between 75-90% of students in these schools live below the poverty line. Urban Gleaners, through partnerships with grocery stores, restaurants and farmers markets, provided these schools with weekly donations of fresh produce, whole grain bread, dairy, and other quality grocery items throughout the year.
We receive constant requests to expand this program, and we are planning to expand to three additional schools this fall. To make this possible, we will need to upgrade our distribution center with new storage space and three new commercial refrigerators.
A donation of $10, $25 or even $50 would go a long way to helping us expand our distribution center and get the food to those who need it most. The act of providing healthy, nutritious food to children is a simple weapon in the fight against hunger. Urban Gleaners has had tremendous success in supplying this basic necessity to children in Portland. This expansion will allow us to provide it to hundreds more.
