The Urban Hunt: A Search for Education
FUNDRAISER SET UP DEADLINE: Jul 26, 2011
We at Urban Humanitarian Projects aim to improve education, healthcare, and quality of life of the underprivileged by working with established charities throughout the United States and abroad. We are a non-profit organization run by a group of medical students that hope to have a positive impact in the lives of those less fortunate. Over the past year we were able to raise close to $70,000 for charitable projects, including $30,000 for Doctors Without Borders ("United Wii Stand" featured here). Our partners in past fundraisers include St. George's University and Iota Epsilon Alpha International Honor Medical Society.
We are all volunteers and 100% of our donations are used for our projects.
We are launching a mentorship program this summer called the GURUS Project to address New York City's rising high school dropout rate. The project will aim to Guide, Unite, and Resolve for Urban Success. We are partnering with the New York City Mentoring Program (NYCMP) to pair up high school students with third- and fourth-year medical students in the NYC area. Our project mission is to instill our mentees with a sense of determination and self esteem, while empowering them with the resources necessary for pursuing higher education.
We invite you to help us realize our vision this July 30th, 2011 and take part in a New York City-wide scavenger hunt that will aim to raise awareness and funds for the GURUS Project.
Urban Hunt Details
Lots of fun exploring the city + free t-shirt + food + prizes!
Our event will start in Central Park at 12PM on July 30th. All participants and volunteers will meet to pick up the scavenger hunt task list.
After a quick initial meeting, you will break off into teams with your friends and try to complete as many tasks as you can within 3 hours. Our task list will include items that need to collect, fun pictures to take, and interesting challenges that you need to complete with your friends. Some challenges may involve you working with random tourists and New Yorkers! You must rely on your team mates and your innate sense of the concrete jungle to be successful (we won’t be providing any hints or clues during the event!).
However, we will make your hunt interesting by giving away prizes during the hunt! You will receive a text message from us if you win a prize (try not to make your friends jealous)!
