Urban Impact invests in the lives of youth to become leaders who in turn invest in the next generation. One of the more challenging seasons of my life was the summer of 2007. During that time I had decided to leave the golf profession and accept a job with a small family owned business. That turned out to be tougher than I expected. I resigned the position and basically played golf and enjoyed life with my new roommates on the Northside of Pittsburgh. At some point I joined the local YMCA on North Ave., I was going for a few weeks and got to know some of the regulars. One day I wanted to work out in the basketball gym and noticed a group of kids being led by a former Steeler Jeff Hartings. I went up to the man assisting him and ask what was happening and how I could get involved. That was my introduction to Urban Impact. After learning more about the mission and vision, I felt led to pursue a career helping at risk youth. The search led me to Youth Advocate Programs Inc., a nonprofit that provides mental and behavioral health rehab for kids and adults. I have been with YAP for 10 years now and I am currently the assistant director of our Pittsburgh office. I am currently volunteering as an outreach basketball coach as well as a pony baseball coach with Urban Impact. It has truly been life changing and that is why I am running in the half marathon as a charity runner for Urban Impact. I whole heartily believe in their mission and hope to share the good news with the youth of the Northside. I hope you enjoyed this small snippet of my introduction to Urban Impact and you help in my efforts to raise funds for this worthy cause that is near and very dear to my heart.
