Each night in New York City, nearly 60,000 homeless people sleep in a shelter or on the street. That's one out of every 138 New Yorkers.
The Gift Bag Program at Urban Pathways, where I volunteer, is a small initiative with a big impact. Each year, I work with my fellow Junior Board members to raise money to give homeless New Yorkers a little piece of home for the holidays. We put together gift bags filled with essential items like toothbrushes, deodorant, hats, gloves and socks - and Urban Pathways distributes them to clients at transitional housing and drop-in shelters. For many who receive these gift bags, this is the only gift they will receive this holiday season.
The plight of homeless New Yorkers has only gotten worse in recent years, and the Junior Board needs to make more gift bags than ever this year. Our goal is to distribute 920 gift bags - up from 700 last year. In order to reach this demand, we hope to raise $10,000.
Please donate whatever you can. Every dollar will be used to help lift spirits and let others less fortunate know that they haven't been forgotten about.
Thank you for your support!
