The USD team just spent time at Daraja Academy, one of the first entirely free secondary schools in East Africa. The school provides 4-year high school scholarships to exceptional Kenyan girls who do not have the means to continue school. On May 15th, we will be cheerleading for Daraja student Ann as she participates in a Lap-A-Thon on campus in an effort to raise money for their school. Here's a little bit about Ann:
Ann may be small in stature, but she has a huge heart and a warm smile for you at any moment. Ann is the oldest in her family with 1 younger sister and 2 younger brothers. When she was 11, her mother passed away trying to give birth to twins. She was then raised by grandfather and father. A kind woman sponsored Ann and her siblings to attend a private primary school. Because of her education, she was able to score very high on her 8th grade exams.
Ann dreams of being a gynecologist because her mother wouldn’t have died if she had a proper doctor. With Ann’s fortitude, anything is possible for this young woman.
