In February of 2010, I travelled to Nepal at my own expense to gather oral literature on the heritage of the Helambu region in the Sindhupalchok district. The stories I recorded are being used to teach the children at the free school in Gangkharka about the history of their people. My first attempt was successful in documenting a small fraction of the region’s stories. I need financial support to finish recording interviews in the region so the children of Helambu can learn their oral history straight from the voices of their geographically isolated ancestors. Based on my previous experience and costs with this project, the amount I hope to raise is the sum I need to complete this cultural preservation and education project. Thank you for your support.
