BENEFITING: The USO
On June 17th just southwest of Yokosuka, Japan, the naval ship USS Fitzgerald collided with a Philippine merchant ship. This caused flooding and extensive damage aboard the vessel, resulting in the deaths of 7 sailors who were fathers, sons, brothers, uncles and friends. While these lives could very sadly not be saved, we can still help the sailors who lived aboard the ship that lost all of their material possessions. My brother in law, Michael Scarborough is stationed in Yokosuka along with my sister Jen and their son Oliver. They have been keeping me updated on the status of the ship and sailors involved and it is not good for many of them. Many of these young men and women live on the ship itself with no physical home in Japan. This means that everything they owned lived on the ship and were ruined in the flood. Many of them are without clothes, phones, toiletries, watches, and many other sentimental things that belonged to them. I hope to use this fundraiser to (at the very least) raise the spirits of those in our military who just survived a traumatic and terrifying event; who are grieving the loss of not only their material possessions but also their fellow sailors and friends whom lost their lives. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go straight to the USO Japan to help these men and women get back on their feet following this horrible tragedy. Thank you for reading their story and for all your help and donations!
