The USS KIDD (DD-661) is a Fletcher-class destroyer that served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War. She is a National Historic Landmark but receives neither state nor federal funding. The Navy no longer funds her. Funding comes from admissions, souvenir sales, grants, and donations.
The KIDD serves as an educational experience for children and adults of all ages through school tours, Overnight camping experiences, seminars/lectures, etc. She is the centerpiece of a memorial honoring veterans who have served or are currently serving our country. The museum and grounds include a P-40E Warhawk fighter plane replica, an A-7E Corsair II jet attack aircraft, the Louisiana Veterans Hall of Honor, the Louisiana Memorial Plaza listing over 7,000 Louisiana natives killed in action, and much more.
Our mission is to preserve this incredible piece of history, allowing her and the museum exhibits to offer an opportunity to expand horizons and understanding for the future by examining and learning from the lessons of the past.
