URSA Minor, the University of Maine Research Student Association for Undergraduates, exists to facilitate exemplary and eager undergraduates in finding research opportunities and experience. Developed by undergraduate researchers, for undergraduate researchers, our program encourages students and faculty to work together to broaden the realm of research at UMaine. Our partnerships will position students into labs and onto projects where they will contribute to the principle investigator, while honing laboratory techniques. Our members are expected to be professional, execute standard laboratory and research protocols, and pass safety training. We provide guidance in laboratory notebook upkeep, instrumentation techniques, and leadership and communication skills. Our weekly meetings allow the members to have interdisciplinary conversations, and give a forum to discuss upcoming scholarships, funding programs, and sponsored research initiatives. We pledge support to our members by constructing contracts between them and the principle investigator, ensuring that our budding researchers obtain a meaningful, and potentially monetary, experience.
