BENEFITING: Vermont Foodbank

This year I am so thankful for (and looking forward to) the delicious foods my family has at our Thanksgiving meal. I am thankful that I have not needed to worry about where my next meal was coming from and if I would be able to afford it. But for an estimated 14% of Vermonters food insecurity is a challenge faced daily.
Here in Burlington we have the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf to help families in need and this month FSL is having a turkey drive and encouraging groups to donate. Our friends at City Market have agreed to pay 1/2 the cost of the turkeys and we are partnering with them to donate local turkeys to the Food Shelf. The turkeys donated will be given out the day before Thanksgiving on a first-come, first served basis at the Food Shelf. From noon to 2pm that day there will be a Thanksgiving dinner for families and individuals, last year between 300 and 400 people attended this dinner. But in total about 3000 turkeys are given to families from the Food Shelf every Thanksgiving.
This month we are tabling and collecting donations. We will have small turkey cutouts which will denote a $1, $5, $20 donation, members (or chapters) will be encouraged to add their name to the turkey. These turkeys will be put onto a poster in the display case across from the Marketplace and displayed for the UVM community to see until the end of the semester. We appreciate your continued dedication to the Burlington community and contributions to a happier, healthier community. Thank you!
