BENEFITING: VIRGINIA HOSPITAL CENTER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 12, 2011
Two years ago, four days after giving birth to my son Reid, I suffered a stroke. The doctors at Virginia Hospital Center not only saved my life but my way of life. As a way of thanking the many clinicians who oversaw my care, please join me in supporting the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation by donating $50 or any amount of your choosing. These contributions help ensure others receive the same exemplary, life-saving treatment I did.
Each year 700,000 Americans will have a new or recurrent stroke. That means someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Over 163,000 of them will be fatal, making stokes the third leading cause of death in the United States. Stroke survivors are often devastated by paralysis, memory loss, speech and vision problems, and changes in behavior.
I was 27 at the time, an unlikely stroke victim, but the doctors at Virginia Hospital Center quickly identified the blood clot on my brain. Only 2 to 4 percent of stroke victims receive treatment within 3 hours of symptom onset—the crucial window to prevent long-term damage and increase the likelihood of survival. In full health today, I am one of the lucky ones.
Please share this opportunity with your family and friends. I appreciate your support.
