BENEFITING: American Cancer Society
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2016
Unfortunately, most of us in our lives will be directly or indirectly affected by cancer. “There are more than 14 million people battling cancer in the United States alone. This doesn’t even take into consideration the millions of other lives indirectly affected by the disease." In honor of Austin Wortley, a member of Vanderbilt's Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Vanderbilt University students are coming together to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Austin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma on December 30, 2010. He has been battling cancer for almost five years. He’s relapsed twice, but fought his way back again and again. He’s been through 12 cycles of chemo, radiation, 2 stem cell transplants and a number of surgeries. We’ve witnessed firsthand the pain and struggle this has brought into his life and feel driven to find any means to support those in similar situations. He’s not the only one. Please support us in our fundraiser as we pledge to throw away the razors and embrace the beards for the entire month.
