BENEFITING: VanderCook College of Music
ORGANIZER: VanderCook College of Music
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
Hi all! I’m Amy, a Physics Ph.D. student at Illinois Institute of Technology. Running for Team VanderCook allows to me to combine my two biggest passions outside of research: running and music. Two people in particular have inspired me to run Chicago this year- my mom, who first inspired me to start running almost four years ago, and my boyfriend Manuel De La Luz, who is a VanderCook student focusing on violin.
I personally am running for Team VanderCook because I believe in the power of music education to change the lives of students. Because when a student picks up an instrument, they learn more than just scales and rhythm; they learn diligence and discipline. They build the desire to attain mastery, develop a sense of achievement and self-confidence, and are more engaged in school.
I am currently training for a half marathon in May, after which I will begin my 18 week, 875+ mile training for the Chicago Marathon. You can follow my training progress on Garmin Connect or by checking my monthly running ticker!
Thank you for helping me be more engaged in two of my biggest passions!
