Diagnosed with cancer at age 11, Taylor Matthews made it her goal to make it possible that "someday no child would ever have to face cancer." While she was sick, she created her very own non-profit organization called Tay-bandz, which was dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for pediatric cancer. Even though she was only able to do this for a short time, she made a lot of money for other children and left such a huge impact. Unfortunately, in February of 2008 Taylor lost her battle and we all lost the most amazing girl I ever had the pleasure of loving.
Taylor and I never had a dull moment together and I think about her everyday. I as well as a bunch of her other friends want to all show how much she truly meant to us by hosting a walk in her honor at a bunch of different colleges on the same day. I hope that you will join me and thousands of other college students in the country so you too can support Tay and all of the other children who are fighting for their lives. If you wish to help support such an amazing cause, you can donate and or participate in Vandy's Relay For Tay 5k walk on Sunday September 30th at 11 am. It will be held on the track next to the recreation center and 100% of our proceeds will be going to pediatric research through the Tay-Bandz organization. I hope you all can make it!
Please sign up and donate here before the day of the event. The first 250 students to do so will receive a relay shirt at the starting line. You will also be able to sign up the day of at the event and there will be a $10 donation as a recommendation.
If you wish to know more about Tay and what an incredible journey you can visit her official website at :: http://www.taybandz.org/.
Thank you so much for all of your donations and I hope to see a great turn out from the commodores!
