Van for the Mentz's
Organized by: Special Needs Trust For Katelynn Mentz
My wife Katie and I need your help raising money to buy a minivan. She was born with Cerebral Palsy and has been confined to a wheelchair for much of her life. She would like to be more active in the community and if we had a van that would accommodate her electric power wheelchair, many of the transportation issues that we face, would be solved.
Currently when we go to visit family or out into the world, we have to take the manual wheelchair. This is less than ideal because she isn't strong enough to maneuver it herself. And since she can't move it herself, I or someone always has to be there which limits her job possibilities. She worked at an after school center for kids but because we lost our transportation, she can no longer work there.
I love my wife very much and want her to be able to experience more freedom and be able to express her love for animals in an epic way.
With your help, I'd like to raise money to buy a minivan that we can convert to be able to take her electric chair with us wherever we need to go.
We are currently accepted to VR, which means the conversion process has already been started. We have been waiting over 2 years for this time. We are so thrilled to go on this journey together.
Unfortunately, we have both been out of work for some time now due to disabilities and in part because we can't reliably get her where she needs to go and be.
That's why we need your help. Because I love my wife and want to see her doing things she loves.
We've been married for almost 3 years and have overcome some incredible obstacles...including several surgeries, depression, navigating married life, transitioning to living on our own and navigating the medicare/medicaid legal landscape with help from our lawyer.
Getting a minivan would help our family tremendously. Any size gift will help us achieve this goal. You can donate today
