BENEFITING: Visalia Emergency Aid Council
EVENT DATE: Apr 03, 2017
HOURS PLEDGED: 17,000
Will you help change the future? Childhood hunger has been linked to numerous problems throughout a child's lifetime. Children with inadequate food in the household suffered emotionally, academically, physically and socially. Research directly links childhood hunger to violent crimes later in life. VEAC is here to change the future and these little lives by providing food to households in our community.
Founded in 1931 to assist the Midwest dust bowl families arriving in the fertile San Joaquin Valley, Visalia Emergency Aid Council consistently strives to meet the needs of hurting families, seniors and individuals. VEAC provides supplemental groceries, clothing and household items to low-income households in Tulare County. Our goal is to continue to serve our community for another 85 years from our north Visalia location. Our current 3,000 sq.ft. pantry, built in the 1940’s, consists of unreinforced adobe and mortar construction, a far cry from today’s modern building standards. We have limited access for our handicapped clients and the pantry storage is much too small for the 1,000+ families we serve each month. Our service area is located in Tulare County, California where over 23% of the population lives at or below the poverty level. We exist to help families who must often choose between paying the rent or feeding their children.
