BENEFITING: United Way Silicon Valley
EVENT DATE: Jun 21, 2013
United Way Silicon Valley is working with Alum Rock School District to help get kids ready for kindergarten with the Bridge to Kindergarten program. This 3-week program is designed to give kids the tools they need for a successful start in school.
Having been born and raised in East San Jose, I witnessed firsthand the challenges and great potential that exists within the area's schools. Although my family lacked the resources for formal preschool, I am fortunate to have a mother who values the importance of early education. She knew that the hours spent in our tiny neighborhood library were critical to her effort to prepare her children for school and life (thanks Mom!).
Unfortunately, not all children are provided with the same support. The statistics tell us that a child is 4 times less likely to graduate high school if they can’t read by the end of 3rd grade. Let's do something about this!
Help me to ensure that East Side kids are ready for kindergarten and, ultimately, success. My goal of $700 will fund the participation of one child and his/her parent in the Bridge to Kindergarten program in the coming fall. Your donation of $10 or more will go directly towards making this effort a reality!
