For the past three years, I have raised money for a very worthy project in Compton, California that provides physical education in the form of lacrosse to over 100 fourth and fifth grade students at Foster Elementary School. Many of these students would otherwise not be provided with any form of physical education, and they have enjoyed getting to know the great game of lacrosse in the process. Entering our third year, we would like to continue the program at Foster and expand it into Whaley Middle School. To do this, we need your help. The financial support you have so generously provided in the past has afforded us the ability to hire a great staff overseen by Bryan “Cutty” Cuthbert. We have also been fortunate enough to purchase equipment for each and every student, something we would love to continuing doing as we look to expand the program.
I would be grateful as would the children if each of you could contribute something to our 2016-17 program at Foster and to the establishment of a program at Whaley. Every penny goes directly into the program. There is literally no overhead.
In an effort to raise awareness to the fundraising drive, I have run two big events the previous two years. In 2014, I ran the Hood-to-Coast 200-mile relay race with seven other writers and in 2015, I ran the Sacramento Marathon. This season I have decided to tackle something familiar and a bit more manageable – the Venice-Santa Monica Christmas Run on December 10. The goal is to exceed my blazing fast best time set in 2011, the only difference is I’ll be doing it five years later!
