THE STORY:

VentureSchool is a micro charter public high school slated to open in 2018 on the northeast side of Detroit, Michigan created with the primary aim of giving students the opportunity to unleash their entrepreneurial potential while receiving a world-class education. The mission of VentureSchool is to create a revolutionary new school model that prepares all students to become capable, curious, and courageous leaders, innovators, and agents of change in their community. Equipped with an entrepreneurial mindset, VentureSchool graduates will be prepared to develop innovative solutions to the challenges that affect our lives today and the world tomorrow. Our vision is to create an unrivaled, community-rooted learning experience that leverages innovative design and student-centeredness through the lens of entrepreneurial education. With our flagship location in Detroit, we hope to cement a model that can be replicated throughout the Midwest -- a region that is ripe for an innovative new approach to education. This fundraiser will help us raise seed capital to kick-off our final planning year. During this year, we will be undertaking a number of endeavors in the following categories to ensure that when VentureSchool opens its doors, we will be able to offer a high-quality, unrivaled learning experience for our students. - Human Capital: We’re working hard to recruit, develop, and retain a high-quality team to put in the energy and sweat equity necessary to bring the VentureSchool vision to reality. - Student Programming: To test our unique, hybrid academic-entrepreneurial curriculum, we have launched a series of pop-up classrooms we are calling VentureLabs that give students in northeast Detroit the opportunity to immerse themselves in a scaled-down version of the VentureSchool experience. - Outreach & Community Engagement: VentureSchool is designed to be a school with deep roots in the community it serves. In order to establish community support and generate buy-in, we have budgeted funds to host conversations and open houses to engage members of the community in the process of building VentureSchool. - Facilities: We are working with the Denby Neighborhood Alliance to redevelop a block of vacant commercial space on Whittier Avenue. Our vision is for VentureSchool to be the anchor tenant of that development to serve as a community hub of learning and entrepreneurial energy.
