I am joining the 12th Annual WALK FOR MUSIC AND THE ARTS on Sunday, May 17, 2015. This fundraiser supports all types of music programs in Boston's neighborhoods and surrounding communities. 100% of the pledges raised will go straight to these music programs (and is tax deductible)! I will be part of The Boston Cecilia team, and my personal goal is to raise $1000 this year.
The walk is a simple 1.5-mile route through the Back Bay Fens, so I'll be able to bring my family with me, which my girls are looking forward to. There will be musical performances all along the route, as well as a rally at the end to show our support for music in our communities. More information about the Walk for Music is available at www.walkformusic.org.
I believe in the need for music and music-making in our lives. But many local music programs face real financial threats. Tickets and fees do not cover the full cost of doing business. Most small, neighborhood-based music programs cannot get grants. Budget squeezes have left many programs under-funded or unfunded. Unless we join together, the music programs in our schools, churches, community and arts organizations will quietly disappear. And it's already started to happen!
I hope that you are able to support me with a pledge toward the Walk for Music and the Arts. Checks can be made out to The Boston Cecilia and sent directly to me at 57 Powder House Road, Medford, MA 02155.
I am really looking forward to participating in the Walk for Music and the Arts, and I welcome your pledge to "keep music alive in our community."
All the best,
