At 22 weeks gestation, we were told that our daughter Charlie has Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome or HLHS. This means that she is missing the left side of her heart and that her Aorta is completely closed off. Of course knowing that our little girl had a broken heart absolutely broke our hearts in turn. We quickly embarked on the path to finding hope for a life for Charlie before her arrival date of July 4, 2014. We are currently under the care of an amazing group of doctors at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and even though we have a rough road filled with several surgeries and recoveries ahead of us, we are optimistic about Charlie’s heart and the life she will have. We were quickly embraced by the heart mom community, and the love and support that our friends and family have already showered us with is amazing. It sincerely lifts our hearts and we know it will do the same for Charlie’s. Please join us, our family and friends in praying for our little Charlie, this journey that God is taking us on, and pledge your heart to Charlie today... Hearts for Charlie!
Update: Charlie was born on July 1st and had her first of three open heart surgeries on July 7. After 11 days in the hospital we were able to take our miracle home! She is currently gaining weight and enjoying life with her family. Next surgery will be around the first of the year 2015.
