BENEFITING: SEEKING TECHNIQUES ADVANCING RESEARCH IN SHUNTS
As most of you already know, I am running my first marathon in just over two weeks. The Grand Rapids Marathon on Sunday October 16th starting and finishing at the YMCA in downtown Grand Rapids. I am one of many individuals working to raise funds for charity with my marathon run. Stars-kids (www.stars-kids.org) will benefit from my marathon run that much I know. As far as how much they will benefit, that depends on you! So far I have raised over $500, but my goal is to reach $3000 and I need your help. Stars-kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding groundbreaking research into hydrocephalus and shunts the most common treatment for hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a condition that allows too much cerebral spinal fluid to accumulate in one's brain. It has serious life threatening implications. Hydrocephalus is a very common birth defect affecting nearly 1 in every 500 births in the U.S. While a smaller percentage, like me, contract hydrocephalus later in life. I was 30 when I developed sudden and severe hydrocephalus without explanation. Thankfully, my shunt has worked well and my body has adjusted to it well. I now lead a full and healthy life and I am able to run. SO many with hydrocephalus can not run because of ongoing complications to their health. When I cross the finish line on October 16th I will be finishing for all those affected by hydrocephalus. Please help me to help them by donating to STARS today.
