Send Veronique to Opera in the Ozarks!
Organized by: Veronique Filloux
Hello friends, family, professors, and neighbors! As you may know, I am an aspiring opera singer and have been working towards my goal for many years. I have been lucky to receive an offer from a program called Opera in the Ozarks following my graduation this June.
What is OIO?
This 8-week program is one of the oldest in the country and puts me in an amazing community of singers as well as professional conductors, musicians, artistic staff, coaches, and other mentors. It stages three operas, an outreach program, and opera scenes every summer.
Why is this so awesome for me?
When I auditioned, I was awarded not only acceptance, but also two mainstage roles! I will be singing Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata and Olympia in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann. I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to learn and perform two roles with orchestra in a professional level production. I’ll be working with the best of the best on all fronts, and it’ll provide me with invaluable hands-on learning experience in my field. I learn best by doing, and on top of coachings, classes, and rehearsals, I’ll be performing in at least 12 shows total (8 of which as a role).
Why is tuition so steep?
In being cast as in roles, I am considered an Apprentice Artist. (This is amazing news! Let’s celebrate for a second!) This means I am studying, rehearsing, and performing a huge amount of music, and therefore, I’m being given a lot of attention by amazing mentors. Once the shows open, the time that was spent on rehearsals will be filled with master classes, movement, stage combat, career development, and so on. My tuition also covers some meals and housing (though I’m covering airfare).
So then, why should you donate?
Here’s the thing. I don’t just want to seem like I am just asking you for money and not doing any work. I have been working hard at my job in Evanston to raise money for this program, but alas, I am a college student, and the missing $5000 of my tuition and airfare is a really daunting number. I consider this program and the experience it will give me to be a huge opportunity for me to learn and grow as a performer and musician, and I intend to milk it for all it is worth. So please, look at this, as I do, as an investment in my professional development. I consider you all to be a part of my support network and will be very grateful for your support in this endeavor, whether monetary or not.
And to say thanks…
… I would love to give anyone who donates a recording of my senior recital, which is going up on May 14! Please leave me a way to contact you or shoot me an email if you would like a CD and I would be absolutely thrilled to send you one to say a huge thank you for your support!
