Anyone who has ever uttered those words has never owned a dog and everyone knows that man’s best friend is not a cat. There exists a special bond between human and canine and to the men and women who are Police K9 handlers, that special bond goes far beyond the typical family pet.
The unfortunate reality is that many police departments don't have the funds to equip their K9 units with protective gear. Bullet and stab protective vests are a luxury for many teams, an expensive luxury of up to and often exceeding $1,000 a unit. With slim budgets and many PDs with no allocation to K9 equipment, fitting all your police dogs with life-saving gear is a daunting, but necessary task. That's where Chive Nation is looking to step in.
Each state-of-the-art, custom fitted vest has a five year warranty and costs $1050. The Chive Chapters are undertaking various ways to raise the funds and the goal is dependent on the number of units that sign up. There are thousands of dogs serving on the force, many of whom are unprotected. If we can equip just one more in every area, that is one more life protected and many more days to come while serving on the streets.
Police dog officers who have survived on the line of duty and reach retirement age may get to live out the rest of his or her days relaxing at home with the handler’s family. We think every dog deserves to enjoy their twilight years with endless belly rubs and bacon treats but even more so especially those who have courageously risked everything to protect us all from the dangers of the world. Please help us in protecting those who every day protect us, one vest one police dog at a time.
